Applying for a role

We are committed to having a diverse workforce and want our recruitment process to be as straightforward and accessible as possible.

If you want us to make any adjustments or you need additional support in relation to our recruitment process, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We don’t want any aspect of our recruitment process to be a barrier for you.

The first step of the process is to complete an online application form. If you haven’t already got an account with us, you'll also need to set one up.

When completing your application, make sure you read the information in the job advert and pay particular attention to the job description and person specification.

As part of the application, you'll get the chance to outline your reason for applying – you should use this section to describe how you meet the requirements of the role as outlined in the job description and person specification.

You can also upload a copy of your CV to supplement your application. If you do, make sure it's up-to-date and relevant to the role you are applying for.

Your completed application form and CV if you included one, will be used by the recruiting manager to decide whether to shortlist you for the selection process.

If you are shortlisted, we will get in touch to talk you through the next steps. If you are unsuccessful, we'll let you know by e-mail.

If you have been selected for an interview you're one step closer to joining us.

Our selection processes vary by role, but will include an interview. We will tell you about any additional requirements or selection testing in advance. Please let us know if you need us to make any adjustments, for example if you need additional time to complete selection tests.

Preparing for your interview

We want you to feel as relaxed and comfortable as you can be in your interview, so we have put together some tips to help you prepare:

  • Job description and person specification – make sure you have read these carefully and think about what skills and competencies you have for the role.
  •  Research - find out as much as you can about our organisation and the service you would be working for.
  • Be on time - if the interview is in person, make sure you know how long it takes to get to your interview. If you are travelling by car, find out where you can park and allow plenty of time.
  • Evidence – gather all of the documents you have been asked to bring to the interview.

Some of our interviews take place online.

On the day:

  •  Show enthusiasm - interviewers want to hear what you have to say and this is your chance to shine so make the most of it. Emphasise your positive points and convince them you are the best person for the job.
  • Answer the question – make sure you answer the question that has been asked and give specific examples whenever possible. Highlight your successes and the skills and experience you have to offer.
  • Ask questions - at the end of your interview, take the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the role or team.

Remote interviews

If you're having a remote interview with us, it will be on Microsoft Teams.
When you get your invite, decide whether you'll do the interview on a desktop or mobile device and download the app. If you have any issues with accessing Microsoft Teams, please contact the recruiting manager.

Top tips:

  • Find a quiet space to do the interview, with minimal distractions if possible.
  • Dress as you would for a face-to-face interview, it will help you get into the interview mindset.
  • Check your camera, microphone and internet connection on the device you are planning to use. Making sure your device is fully charged or you have a charger nearby.
  • Elevate your electronic device so it is at face-level.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to join the online video call, we would recommend joining at least five minutes before to make sure there are no issues.
  • Have any documentation about the role close to hand, including proof of your eligibility to work if needed.
  • Have your phone nearby in case you have any technical issues, but make sure your phone is on silent to avoid disruptions.
  • Have a glass of water next to you.

Overcoming technical problems

Even with the best intentions and preparation, technology can sometimes fail.

If you have any problems connecting on the day or if your connection drops out during the interview, please contact the person on your interview invite. Similarly, if the interview panel has any technical problems, they will get in touch to rearrange the interview.

If a technical problem means you are unable to hear or fully understand a question that has been asked at any point of the interview, make the interview panel aware and ask them to repeat questions.

The recruiting manager will contact you to tell you whether you got the job or not.

If you'd like some feedback on your application or selection process performance, please ask the recruiting manager.
